At Zac's two week doctor's appointment I found out that Zac was not growing as fast as the doctor would like. When Zac left the hospital, he had dropped down to a flat 7 pounds, which is normal weight loss for newborns. But at two weeks old, he had only gained 7 more ounces. It was determined that his tongue might be the culprit, which we were told in the delivery room it might be an issue. Zac was only able to stick his tongue out to the bottom of his lip and as a result, was affecting his latch for nursing. He therefore was not getting enough milk. The doctor went ahead and clipped the bottom of his tongue, just a mere 1 millimeter. My poor little guy did not get any numbing gel or anything. Just a pair of scissors. It broke my heart! Zac cried the whole way home, all the while I am thinking all his previous crying was not because he was a cranky baby, but because he was hungry! Mom fail!
Anyway, here were his stats from his 2 week visit:
Weight: 7 pounds, 7 ounces (16th percentile)
Length: 20.7 inches (56th percentile)
Head: 36.5 centimeters (70th percentile)
And now to chunk up baby boy!
